Friday September 4, 2009 The Auditor General of the Republic of Zambia, Ms.Annah Orlia Chifungula is expected to arrive in Liberia tomorrow September 5, 2009 as guest of the General Auditing Commission (GAC).
Heading a delegation of senior staff of the Zambia Audit Office, Ms.Chifungula’s visit will further harden the already existing mutual and professional cooperation between the General Auditing Commission and the Zambia Audit Office. |

GAC Releases another Batch of Audit Reports to the National Legislature |

The General Auditing Commission (GAC), in diligently keeping with its statutory mandate as enshrined in Section 53.3 of the 1972 Executive Law of Liberia to conduct audits of all government ministries, agencies and public corporations, has completed another batch of audit and submitted same to the National Legislature.
Those audit reports submitted today to the National Legislature include, four Heavily Indebted Poor Country (HIPC) initiative audit reports conducted on the Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, and the Ministry of Public Works; all for the fiscal year ended 2006/2007. |

The Communications Department of the General Auditing Commission (GAC) has reacted to an invitation extended to the Auditor General of Liberia, Hon. John S. Morlu, by House Standing Committee on Public Accounts and Expenditure for a hearing on GAC Audit of the Sale of Buchanan Iron Ore. It is unusual that the House Committee’s invitation to the hearing was extended on the very date that the hearing was scheduled. |

GAC Begins Government Properties Audit |

The General Auditing Commission (GAC) is conducting properties audit of all government assets, including land, buildings, plants and equipment and investments owned in and out of the country by the Government of Liberia.
GAC indicates that the intent and purpose of the audit is among other things to establish a viable data base and Balance Sheet for the Republic of Liberia and to also assist the Government in instituting measures that will procure and prevent public properties from illegitimate ownership. |

GAC Hires FBI-Certified Expert |

As part of the General Auditing Commission’s statutory obligation to conduct specialized investigative and forensic audits where public monies are at risk, either because they are siphoned, misapplied or misappropriated, the Commission has hired the services of Mrs. Meredith DeKalb Miller, a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) certified handwriting and document examiner expert to work with the Commission‘s auditors in finalizing the special audit of the fraudulent transfer of US$1,171,751.
The forensic expert, who is expected to arrive in the country this weekend, specializes in analyzing, comparing, and evaluating documentary evidence and providing an expert opinion regarding a document's originality or authenticity. |
